This is a live-edge slab cutting board, “Wave,” made from a single slab of black locust. Black locust is a great wood for cutting boards thanks to its hardness. It’s the second-hardest American domestic hardwood, next to hickory. It also has anti-microbial properties.
This is a medium, prep-size cutting board, great for anything from light prep work to slicing limes for gin-and-tonics or cloves of garlic. It isn’t large enough for big volume or, say, a turkey. It’s been shaped to retain its live edge and character, including a great color contrast between the sapwood and the heartwood. In this piece, the dividing line forms a pretty wave.
Wine bottle for scale.
